Our second Lunchtime, and word has spread, I had 44 students sitting waiting outside my door at the start of the second half of lunch. Students were busting to show me the Star Wars characters they had made. Students displayed them on the Apple TV’s and spoke about the challenges they had with construction. The best part of the day club session was when a year 4 asked a year 1 who had changed the colour of his font in Minecraft, ‘How did you do that?’ ‘Here, I’ll show you’ then two more kids ‘Can you show us too.’ ‘Miss Moroney can I use the Apple TV to teacher others?’ I simple nod and the collaboration and peer(or should I say mini master) mentoring had begun. I love this Job!! This is exactly why I open my doors at lunchtime, these amazing young people have so much to offer and any person who can’t see the benefits that an activity such as Minecraft has not only for spacial awareness, or one of the 50 other learning opportunities but the socialisation, the peer instruction, the excitement of learning has their eyes closed. Bring on our leaders, builders, architects and problem solvers of tomorrow. How cool is that Death Star??
